it's been ages since i buzzed the fuzz with some Black Kite News -

but -

here we go again -

First off, we're shooting a Video for our first "single" - Paper Heart - next week here in Los Angeles with Michael Grodner. Should be fun and cool and playing on a video viewing screen near you in the near future -

and secondly, we're playing our very first San Francisco show at the end of March -

March 21st at the Cafe Du Nord with the Prids and Loquat. Should be a blast - amazing bands and cool people.

i'll probably post again about this closer to the date - so this is just a heads up.

18 bands from right now all covering songs from 1987. we, as you might have already guessed, have "Lucretia, My Reflection" on the comp. (20 years - i'm sorry, but that's crazy!)

so, we play tonight with some great bands at the viper room for indie 103.1, we did a great photo shoot yesterday, and hopefully very soon we'll have our brand new EP out and about.

we stumbled across this while digging for any miscellaneous write-ups floating around the interwebby thing, and thought it was kinda cute.

and the black kites are playing there this coming saturday (that would be July 21st).

we'll be opening up - for the Switch & the Transmissions - so we're probably hitting the stage early (9pmish?) in the evening.

I'm looking forward to this show - it's like our last step to cement this band's foundation. we've practiced, we've recorded, we've gotten drunk together, we've done the photoshoot thing, we've even had official band meetings.

we've got buttons and t-shirts and EP's to sell.

but the four of us have never ever played live together. so here we go - into the light.

The last time i played live was october 14th, 2005... it was at the Crocodile Cafe in Seattle. a good night to end a good string of shows with my last band... and now... i begin again.

only one week to go before we get our next little EP mastered. we are all very excited, but at the same time - it's kinda like.... then what?

we have a show coming up, we're practicing a lot -

we have the old songs which sound good, but the new ones sound even better (we think), and we've already started working on a couple of new tunes - that are crying out to be recorded.

it's the constant up and down of being in a band - while you wait for your new songs to become available, you have even newer songs that you get excited about, and by the time the new songs are ready, they sound old. it's hard to catch these sonic photographs just right, but we're trying.

but, on the plus side, we just got a bunch of t-shirts in - so we're actually ready to host a merchandise table at our next show. that's always a good thing.

onwards and upwards....

(and if it's not too much to ask - if you listen to the songs we have up here - leave a little comment... anything from a detailed review, to a simple "thumbs, up dude" or even - "it would've been better if the drums were louder..." it just feels good to get feedback - and we promise to return the favor...) yours,

the first is a cover of Lucretia My Reflection, originally by The Sisters of Mercy. we recorded and mixed it in 1 day - for an upcoming compilation of bands covering songs that were released in 1987.

the second is an older one, but fully original - and will be on the upcoming EP.

our newest stuff is still waiting to be mastered, but you can be sure that some of it will end up here.

comments and reviews on the songs are definitely more than welcome!
